What Washington licenses

Licensing agency
WA Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Residential Care Services
License types we list
Assisted Living Facility, Adult Family Home
Small homes
Washington's Adult Family Homes are licensed for up to 6 residents (some up to 8); we label them as small homes.
Memory care
DSHS flags assisted living facilities with a memory care certification, and adult family homes with a dementia specialty.

How Washington publishes inspections

DSHS posts each license's inspection reports, complaint investigations and enforcement letters on its own lookup site, and its list says whether any are posted. We link to them rather than copy them. State inspection information (opens in a new tab)

What assisted living is

A place to live with meals, help with bathing, dressing and medicines, and someone on hand day and night. It isn’t a nursing home: there’s no round-the-clock nursing. Find nursing homes →

Small homes

Many states license small homes, often a house with 2 to 6 residents, under their own names (adult family home, family care home). We list them with the larger ones and label each as a small home with its bed count.

The state’s safety record

Where a state publishes its inspection findings, we show them in the state’s own words and scale, with the period and source. We don’t score, rank or sort homes by them.

By county

Counted by the home’s address. Each link opens the homes near a ZIP code in that county.
