What you pay

  • You pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount after the Part B deductible, if your supplier accepts assignment.[1]
  • A supplier that takes part in Medicare must accept assignment. Ask before you get anything.[1]

The 13-month rental

  • Medicare pays your supplier rent on the machine for 13 months, as long as you keep using it.[1]
  • After 13 rental payments in a row, the machine is yours.[1]

How often Medicare pays for new supplies

  • Full-face mask: 1 every 3 months.[2]
  • Cushion for a full-face mask: 1 every month.[2]
  • Nasal mask: 1 every 3 months.[2]
  • Nasal mask cushions or nasal pillows: 2 every month.[2]
  • Headgear and chinstrap: 1 of each every 6 months.[2]
  • Hose, heated or not: 1 every 3 months.[2]
  • Throwaway filters: 2 every month. A reusable filter: 1 every 6 months.[2]
  • Humidifier water chamber: 1 every 6 months.[2]

Rules for refills

  • These are usual limits, not a promise. Medicare pays for supplies only while the machine itself is covered.[2]
  • A supplier may not send more than three months of supplies at once.[2]
  • Before a refill, the supplier must contact you and get a yes that you need it. It may not ship refills you did not ask for.[2]
